Mini-BlueTOAD packages the advanced traffic monitoring technology of BlueTOAD  in a small form factor that discretely measures travel times, road speeds and route behaviors for road network planning and performance analysis.

Mini-BlueTOAD is designed for situations where "live" real-time data is not required, but enables detections for later analysis.

Measuring less than six inches square, Mini-BlueTOAD attaches to virtually any existing roadside infrastructure.

Its battery powers continuous data collection for up to two weeks without a recharge.  An optional small-form solar panel, about the size of an open magazine, can recharge the battery for longer studies.

Data is stored on a Micro SD card, and downloaded through a simple client interface for analysis through BlueTOAD’s market leading travel time and routing algorithms.

Agencies and their consultants recognize the accuracy and value of BlueTOAD data.  For situations where travel-time, speed and/or origin/destination data is not required in real time, we wanted to  facilitate devoice deployment to support planning, modeling and analysis.  Without the need for a large battery to support cellular communications, Mini-BlueTOAD offers a product size that is easy to install and move around in order to study a range of key metrics such as road network performance, signal timing and data-based roadwork planning.

  • TrafficCast proven algorithms for filtering and processing data inputs to compute travel-times and speeds.
  • 14-Day continuous battery for post processing of travel-times and speeds.
  • Small (6 in. x 6 in. x 4 in.) form factor for quick installation.
  • Minimum 2 GB SD Card storage - holds data for up to 1 year.
  • Quick 1-click data upload.
  • Secure web interface for statistical data reports covering speeds, travel times, MAC pairs, and origin/destination.

  • Mini-BlueTOAD is the non-intrusive traffic sensor that enables critical, cost-effective data collection and traffic monitoring for the planning, modeling and performance measurement of road networks.
  • Granular speed data on road sections where traditional sensors are impractical, such as entrance ramps, tunnels and bridges.
  • Comparisons of travel times between designated origin & destinations, to build travel patterns for road planning.
  • Comprehensive data sampling of driver actions, which can be collected over time periods far beyond what is economically feasible through traditional methods like car counts and rubber strips.
  • To more effectively support planning and operations of the road network, Mini-BlueTOAD enables temporary monitoring of arterial road speeds, exit/entrance patterns, backup queues and other conditions. For example:
  • Better understanding the seasonal patterns of drivers exiting an expressway to a local thoroughfare in order to enter a shopping mall could yield a more precise ROI in resolving to enhance the mall interchange vs. building a new exit.

    • Mini-BlueTOAD can help optimize adjustments to traffic light sequencing and ramp metering, offering straightforward installation and redeployment of devices.
    • Mini-BlueTOAD data supports critical planning tools such as Trip Length Analysis and Travel Demand Models by accurately capturing patterns of vehicle movements across multiple time periods, such as trends of travel length following entrance to an expressway.

Mini-BlueTOAD extends the BlueTOAD product line to offer a consistent format of accurate traffic monitoring for both operations in real-time and requirements for passive data collection.  The original BlueTOAD configuration offers completely independent operation; BlueTOAD/CONNECT is an Ethernet-based BlueTOAD Card that slides directly into any standard Detector rack found in modern roadside signal cabinets.

All BlueTOAD products are non-intrusive to roadway infrastructure and cost-effective relative to legacy technologies that gather analogous data.  And Mini-BlueTOAD shows that good things can also come in small packages.

  • Mini-BlueTOAD installs on virtually any existing road-side infrastructure with a single band strap and the included universal pole mount clamp.
  • Micro-SD card is included for storage of collected data.
  • Data is transferred from the Micro-SD  via a simple client interface.
  • Data analysis is provided through BlueTOAD’s market leading travel time and routing algorithms.
  • Resulting data content is available through the secure BlueTOAD web interface, which enables the convenience of information access by multiple users, controlled by the client.
